What’s Artificial Intelligence for? Do digital assistants really spy on us like keyboard plotters suspect? Will a computer ever be as smart as we are or more? These are the questions we asked ourselves in this edition of our magazine dedicated to Artificial Intelligence and the new frontiers of computing.
To get sure answers, we interviewed Google Home and Siri: who better than a home assistant can explain how a digital brain thinks (and what it thinks)? Reading in the mind is also the goal of Romanian engineer and psychologist Dumitru Grigore, the inventor of Mindmi: he is the first real personality scanner. We have analyzed how this device works, which analyzes psychophysiological data in order to return a specific personality profile useful to know how much you are suited for a job or the degree of compatibility with your partner: the results are amazing!
Besides probing the meanders of the mind, Artificial Intelligence can also facilitate interpersonal relationships. This has been confirmed by Paride Papathanasiu, a very young student at the Politecnico di Torino who has designed a headset capable of simultaneously translating over 100 languages. Just wear it to have the live translation of what our interlocutor says in Chinese, Russian or Turkish: all this is possible thanks to the principle of bone conduction. How does it work? We have understood that it is much more complicated than you might think!
The Patent is a media partner of IFIA, the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations. The Federation supports inventors from over 50 countries, finances matching with stakeholders and organizes international events: Los Angeles, Jakarta, Taiwan, London and Dubai are just some of the 40 locations that host the meetings organized by IFIA every year. Thanks to this media partnership we have collected an incredible number of patents and inventions in absolute preview: from the collective lifebuoy to the vegetable film to preserve food, from the floating metal alloy to the intelligent insole that warns us if we don’t walk properly.
These are just a few previews of what you can find in our magazine…because behind every great invention, there is the Patent!
