This issue of our magazine is dedicated to Virtual Reality, a technology that is transforming the way we see, feel and perceive the world around us.
In the focus, we dwelt on the implications and potential of augmented reality in our everyday lives. Wearing a viewer, today we can travel, visit museums and explore beautiful monuments without leaving home. Is all this good for art? We have also asked ourselves this question and, perhaps, we found the answer in an app developed in Berlin. Even the world of work is changing in a radical way: we met Remy Rousseau, founder of a startup that is working on a system to communicate at a distance as in a face-to-face chat. Omar Rashid, one of the pioneers of VR in our country, told us about his “first time” with the viewer and explained why an artist should use new technologies.
The Patent is a media partner of the Maker Faire Rome. In the Patents section, we gave space to three projects developed by young makers that caught our attention among the pavilions of the Fair. We interviewed the creators of Bentu, the first folding wind turbine ever made. A group of students from Mantua told us about the method they developed to combat pollution thanks to an insect. The students understood that a moth very common in Italy is able to digest PE, turning it into silk. Hence the idea of using it to fight plastic pollution. Finally, Dmitry and his research team presented the first portable electrocardiogram, a device a few centimeters large that can monitor the cardiac track and transfer data to the PC and smartphone.
These are just a few previews of what you can find in our magazine…because behind every great invention, there is the Patent!
